Reading, Writing & Raw Sex: Boy Brings Porn to Class on PSP

Are you 14 and plagued by raging hormones?

Forget stashing porn under the mattress; Mom and Dad already know to look there. Instead, succumb to the technological advancements of the twenty-first century and hide it on your Sony PlayStation Portable(PSP). Yes, PSP users have found they can download or transfer digital multimedia to the popular handheld gaming system. All kinds of digital multimedia.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, a fourteen-year-old North Dakota connoisseur of adult entertainment was cited with a class C felony last week after sharing his digital goods with fellow students. One of them tattled and the boy was charged with promoting obscenity to minors.

He was also cited with simple assault for using a key to scratch the fellow student who told school officials he had dirty pictures on his PSP.

AE: As a juvenile, it's very unlikely the boy will bear the full brunt of the law (up to five years imprisonment and/or a $5000 fine). Of course we don't know all of the circumstances, but from a distance, one wonders whether the response was a bit heavy-handed. Confiscation, counseling and suspension seem like more reasonable approaches to the issue. Then again, his retaliation against the tattling student surely didn't help his cause.

-Reporting from San Diego, GP Correspondent Andrew Eisen pauses from his PSP mpeg's just long enough to pen this story.

Parent's probably would suspect the PSP having NSFW pictures on it, but they know that they have no chance of actually finding them.

Is it really possible to hide pictures on a PSP? Really, all you have to do is select the Pictures tab and scroll through the thumbnails, and there's your porn. The only way to "sneak" it in would be to save the pictures somewhere other than the Pictures folder, then transfer them via USB, at which point the PSP is no different than a USB stick.

Kids these days with their interwebtrons and their free pr0n. Why can't they even spell it right!? It's Porn! Back in my day, after walking to school uphill both ways (or walking out front to my friends car), we had to actually obtain porn. Nowadays you just google, "I want me some girly pictures," and you've got more than you bargained for. Back in my day, you had to try and find a conveniant store that still sold Playboys, and pay the creepy guy out back 20 bucks to buy it for you. And you were happy with your softcore gentleman's magazine. Happy, daggnabbit! No, no, not good enough for you youngin's today - you've got to download "Debbie Does Dallas X," and transfer it to your soft-modded PSP, and bring it to school and show other kids! And to top it off, instead of just punching the kid you squealed in the gut, or giving him a wedgie, or putting him in a headlock - you've got assault the kid with your keys! Now I've been in a few schoolyard scrums in my day, but stabbing someone with your keys is just weak. Nothing like a black eye or bloody nose to teach you a lesson about life.

Kids these days. Things were better back in 1994, when I was 14 . . . . .
[/end old guy rant]

Damn straight! Kids these days have it so easy. In my day, we had to get porn the old fashioned way -- by hanging out with the kid who had HBO and staying up late to watch the T&A matinees.

Making "harmful to minors" laws a felony is rediculous. At most it should be a misdominor (sp?) and at best they should be stricken from the record, IMHO. The idea that it's harmful for a group of 14 year olds to look at nude sexual pictures is asinine (ps - i'm not a fan of obscenity laws even though they are constitutional). On the other hand, the kid should be punished for hurting the other student in retaliation though.

I'm suprised it didnt happen sooner. Sheesh when the PSP came out I saw kids watching porn on it. My friends and I even came up with a prank involving the porn on one guys PSP fr use in chemistry. I think the kid was just an idiot for giving it out to people and actually getting caught. Shame on the parents, but the kid is just stupid.

Back when I was in school, very very few would have tattled... and we knew which ones would. And if someone HAD tattled they would have the snot beat out of them. Maybe video games are making kids wussier? I mean, wtf, a KEY? That's almost as bad as throwing a SHOE at someone (appologies to Austin Powers).

Now Thompson will advocate the PSP comes brand new loaded with porn.

I can see it now.

"It had been proven that the pixelatne owned company "Sony computer enternatinment" Has been releasing their PSP portable murder simulator device with pornographic pistures easily accessible to minors. I wish to issue a demand upon retailers of local schools that the PSP no longer be sold to anyone again ,ever. Don't you burned out frontal lobe kiddies try to tell me that the PSP doesn't have porn with it, as I am right, and you are wrong, pixelante thugs. Sony is going down. Hooah!! Jack Thompson."

Heh you don't need a large capacity mem stick to load porn onto your psp, the 32mb one would do fine! Or better off, just browse the the internet using the PSP's wifi capabilities, don't even need a memory stick.

But I don't know, am I the only one who thinks this isn't that big of a deal? I'm referring to the pornography, not the key-scratching assault. I mean he's 14, he's not a kid! I wonder how many other 14 year olds have seen porn? I'd bet a lot with widespread internet access these days. Like the1jeffy said in a post above, back in our days, we had to physically get our hands on porn or whatever, there was no internet back then! I'd say with the 'wealth' of material available on the internet, kids aren't even as excited/interested in sex compared to previous generations, it's like they're desensitized. I'm just glad no one is pointing fingers and calling the PSP a bad pr0n machine (yet).
I suppose his parents should have been monitoring his internet use... but come on, he could've went to a friend's house or a public library/netcafe or something and downloaded the images to his PSP! Parents can't watch their children all the time I suppose...

On a side note, the PSP is pretty handy! I hardly use it to play games anymore, I use to it read PDF documents, watch .avi files, and listen to music. Gotta put that stupid 2gig mem stick I bought to use for something I suppose!

Felony!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Like none of the cops that arrested him, or the judge ever recieved or shared porn with other kids when they were in that 10-15 age range. It's a rite of passage, someone steals their dad's magazines from his sock drawer, and everyone gathers around oogling the naked ladies.

What is this world coming to!?

1. Well, it was only a matter of time before some kids put Porn on their PSP or anything they happen to carry with them to school and show someone else. And of course eventually some bugger is going to go whine and get them in trouble because the kids a dolt.

2. Well hell yea I'd punch the kid to for telling on me but not scratch him with my car keys, that's just stupid. First rule in high school, don't leave a mark, then they can prove it. Always punch in the gut.

3. And now we'll see more ranting and raving from parents who lack the technical skills and probably the access to know what thier kid has on the thing anyways.

4. Likely he will get some massive punishment especially since like anyone else he "attacked" his accursore. God, when did people forget what it was like what you were a kid and consquenses was more of an adult thing.

5. I agree from above, back in 1996 when I was 14 you have to either get your porn from your friends who stole it from thier parents or try out this new thing called the internet if no one was around AND someone you know had it.

So, as one of the many boys who saw the playboy someone brought to school and had confiscated...what's the big deal?

I don't remember anyone getting charged with a felony for it. The guidance counselor was a bit heavy handed making him write "I am a pervert" 500 times, but no damage done as he just wrote it off as being silly and that everyone looks at it.

Nobody was corrupted or hurt. It was sex. Yes. We're in a culture steeped with it that won't admit it.

And I certainly can't understand how a minor can be charged with corrupton of a minor. This sort of thing was generally reserved for adults, right? Next thing you know the boy getting to second base is going to be arrested for statutory.

Everybody had that one neighbor kid that was a year or two older (a whole 7 years old!) and would introduce you to all sorts of things... teaching you new words and stealing his mom's lingerie magazines.

Now, apparently, he's "corrupting a minor". Congratulations, the US collective IQ just dropped another four points! Good for us!

I myself was 14 last year, and if people can remember, by that point, you have a sense of maturity and an expectation of at least basic rights and respect. But more and more, rights of young people are taken away because 14 sounds so "young". Don't get me wrong, I don't think they should get guns, booze, and porn freely, just the opposite. But at least don't treat this as if it were a child. Who knows, I might be alone on this. I was always sort of an outcast. But tell me honestly you didn't look at porn when you were 14.

This kid won't actually get any of these assault or obscenity charges, because when someone does something stupid around here, we're not the types to make a big deal about it. Basically someone says "Hey, you're stupid." and we all call it a day. Also I wouldn't worry about this making any national news, 'cause yeah... Bismarck, ND.
