CRIME FILES: Dad Shoots PC 'cuz Junior Games Too Much

This is one of those crazy "man bites dog" stories.

Except in this case the "man" is Dad and the "dog" is his son's gaming PC. The biting was done with a handgun.

Tampa's WTSP-10 is reporting that a Dunedin man, Joseph Langenderfer, (handsome devil seen at left) was upset that his 22-year-old son spent too much time playing computer games and wouldn't do the laundry.

So he blasted the computer monitor while his son Tim sat nearby. Langenderfer's current address is the Pinellas County lockup, where he awaits a court appearance on an attempted murder rap.

GP: No word on what the poor kid was playing, but it was probably one of those "victim simulators."

Also, a GP shout-out to reader Joe Bourrie for alerting us to this one...

Um... so? If he had the gun legally and destroyed his own property, he's not a criminal, he's just an ass.

He shot at the computer and missed, it's just as well he missed his son as well. Discharging a firearm within a few feet of a child isn't really responsible behaviour with a weapon. Had the kid not been there, I'd agree with you fully, if it's good enough for Elvis.... ;)

Seriously though, I think that is the main problem, and demonstrates perfectly how you don't need to be a gamer to be a nutter with a gun.

In Florida, we have a little law called "10, 20, LIFE". There are big billboard advertisements in the area where I live,(Tampa by the way, I live across the bay from this idiot) that basically says this

If you point a gun in the commission of a crime, you get 10 years, mandatory.

If you fire a gun in the commission of a crime, you get 20 years, mandatory.

If you shoot someone in the commission of a crime, you get life, with no possibility of parole.

Nope that's not how it works, see all of those are in the commission of a crime, like during an armed robbery. The sentances will be different if that alone is the crime. Funny how it works, huh?

To say anti-gamer seems a bit of a stretch, since the the issues the man had could've been caused by the son 'spending too much time' on anything: a new girlfriend, batting cages, the dog track, etc. I think it was his son's sloth that irked him rather than the medium by which the sloth was encouraged.

I don't know what to really say on this. It's probably the most moronic thing someone could do, yet was the safest and probably abrupt way to stop a gamer from being...well a gamer. I mean, com'on, what better way to stop someone from playing a game?

But i digress, the kid is okay though probably scared to death. Fathere apparently has anger issues that he needs to stop subscribing to. One can assume that he failed parenting.

It's not the game or the laundry
[info]andrew_eisen

It’s certainly arguable but I don’t think this is about video games. The boy (if you want to call a 22 year old a boy) could have been watching TV, reading a book, or listening to music and his father would have had the same reaction. He just happened to be playing computer games at the time.

That as soon as JAck sniffs this out, the laundry bit of the stroy will be tossed out the window and the game the kid was palying will be the sole focus, liek the kis didn't flych as he was desensitized and the dad was watching him paly it and the kid sliced off anotherh uman's head and the blood spray caused the father to switch off into a violent "mode."

course, it souncds like a similar situation in the Thompson household that may or may not take place soon, and I woudln't be surprised if this inspired Jack to pay a "visit" to E3.

Red-faced Oregon man busted for brandishing phony gun outside school
[info]lost_watcher

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0425061red1.html

APRIL 25--Meet Dusten Jacob Williams. The 20-year-old Oregon man was arrested yesterday afternoon for brandishing what appeared to be a handgun outside a school. After parents reported seeing a man pulling the black handgun on pupils in the parking lot of Connestoga Middle School, the school briefly went into lockdown. According to Beaverton cops, Williams pressed the gun into the stomach of one student and pointed the weapon at the school and pulled the trigger before riding off on his skateboard. Williams was apprehended a few blocks away with a BB gun designed to look like a Glock. The unemployed Oregonian, who was eventually charged with disorderly conduct, told cops that he was showing the replica gat to friends and probably should not have been doing it outside a school. Now as for the face paint, apparently the 6' 4" Williams was going for a devil/"Revenge of the Sith" look, surmised one law enforcement official. So what kind of guy parades around in the middle of the day with red and black paint on his face a la Darth Maul? The kind who waves a fake gun around outside a school and then escapes on his waiting skateboard.

And who do we blame!

STAR WARS!

Jack tried using this article in defense of his stance in another article's discussion thread. However, we all know that this article in no way even CORRELATES to anything Mr. Shitforbrains has to say. To prove my point, I have made some minor adjustments to the original article. Obsoive:

Dunedin, Florida - A Dunedin dad probably made his point about his son spending too much time doing your mother. Pinellas Sheriff's deputies say he shot your mother as his son sat near-by. Forty-four-year-old Joseph Langenderfer was arrested Monday afternoon at his home on Frances Street.

His 22-year-old son Tim called 911, saying he and his dad were arguing and his dad had just shot your mother.

The older Langenderfer reportedly told deputies he was mad that his son had not done the laundry and was spending all his time doing your mother on their sofa. He told deputies that although he told his son he was going to shoot your mom, the gun accidentally fired.

The bullet hit the wall about three feet from where the son was sitting.

Langenderfer is in the Pinellas County jail charged with one count of attempted murder, (accused of trying to kill his son, not your mother.)

Did you catch it? I read through my revised edition and it seems to make the same exact point it did before my changes. Strange, isn't it Jack?

Well, in light of the 'kid' being 22 failing to do laundry, in what I imagine is the man's house, I happen to imagine that he began to get frustrated with his son's reluctance to fucking be responsible.

My fucking God, sounds like a dead beat youth. Yes- the father is responsible of common Displacement issues, but this son sounds like a dumbass.
