IF AN AWFUL GAME IS BANNED AND NO ONE CARES, DOES IT MAKE A SOUND?
Numerous sources are reporting that Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification has refused to rate Midway's NARC. The decision effectively bans the game, which features violence and simulated drug usage, from the Land Down Under. Although government censorship is never desirable, in this case we're not sure that Australian consumers will even notice.
Seriously, though, a surprising number of games are banned in Australia. Web site Refused Classification tracks games and movies shot down in flames by the OFLC. Some "A" list titles have been kept from Australian gamers, including Silent Hill, The Getaway, and all five Grand Theft Auto titles.
